The Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 25](A)
Leviticus 19.1-2, 15-18 Psalm 1 1 Thessalonians 2.1-8 Matthew 22.34-46
May the Lord be in my mind, on my lips, and in my heart that I am truly and rightly proclaim His holy Word. Amen.
“They are like trees planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither” (Ps. 1.3). That’s what I want to be like! And the point is that that is what I can be like. I can, anyone can, all can—those who take delight in the law of the Lord. This is Psalm 1 we are talking about, the very beginning of the entire collection of one hundred and fifty hymns that we call the Book of Psalms. This is an announcement of godly wisdom, that obeying God leads to blessing, and turning from Him to follow our own desires leads to becoming like “chaff which the wind blows away”.
